New SASSA R350 Grant Requirements

Sassa has introduced the new regulations regarding Sassa grants application. The South African Social Security Agency has asked that all new applicants must meet these requrements.

According to SASSA, R350 grant regulation must be in accordance to the Social Assistance Legislation which indicates that the monthly threshold for an individual must be R350.

Who Is Eligible To Apply For SASSA R350 Grant Under The New Requirements?

Under the new requirement, the following people are eligible to apply for SASSA R350 grant. Applicant must be a/an;

  1. South African citizen
  2. Permanent resident
  3. Refugee
  4. Holder of a special permit under the Special Angolan Dispensation, the Lesotho Exemption Permit Dispensation or Zimbabwe Exemption Permit Dispensation
  5. Asylum seeker, whose section 22 permit or visa is valid
  6. Registered on the Department of Home Affairs database or registered on the Agency’s social grant database with a unique system generated identifying number for people without identity documents
  7. Between the ages of 18 and 60
  8. Currently residing within the borders of South Africa
  9. Not a resident in a government-funded or subsidized institution
  10. Not unreasonably refuse to accept employment or educational opportunities.

According to SASSA, under the new R350 requirements, beneficiaries will have to go through a special Covid-19 SRD grant means test to ensure that the grants beneficiaries are still qualified to recieve payments for the grant.

SASSA states that it will do the checks to see if a beneficiary still qualifies through the financial banks. All beneficiaries are also encouraged to check the SASSA website after every 3 months to provide them with relevant information on wether or not they still need the grant.
